Among them, the Kerala Police have emerged as a model with their systematic and proactive approach. By identifying, mapping, and marking accident-prone areas, emergency response points, and locations requiring heightened surveillance along the pilgrimage routes, the police have completed extensive safety preparations.
The department’s detailed presentations at ministerial review meetings have also drawn attention. During a review meeting chaired by Public Works Minister P.K. Basheer at the Sreerama Saketham Hall in Pampa to assess the Public Works Department’s preparations for the pilgrimage, Pathanamthitta District Police Chief R. Anand, IPS, presented the police department’s comprehensive security plan.
He explained the safety measures planned along the pilgrimage routes, including barricades, crash barriers, poorly lit stretches, dangerous curves, and other critical infrastructure. He noted that every accident-prone location has been identified, assigned a unique number, and documented. This system will enable police and emergency responders to quickly locate and reach the exact site during emergencies, significantly improving response times.
The police also recommended installing additional reflective lights and warning systems to reduce accidents caused by drivers falling asleep during night-time travel. These measures are expected to enhance road safety and lower the risk of accidents.
During the pilgrimage season, robust police security arrangements will be in place across the entire pilgrimage route, including Pampa and Sannidhanam. As in previous years, the police department aims to ensure the safety of pilgrims, facilitate smooth travel, and provide a comprehensive security framework capable of responding swiftly to any emergency.
