സംരക്ഷിത പട്ടികയിലുള്ള സ്രാവ്, തിരണ്ടിയിനങ്ങളെ കുറിച്ച് പൊതുജനങ്ങളെ ബോധവൽകരിക്കുന്നതിനായി കേന്ദ്ര സമുദ്രമത്സ്യ ഗവേഷണ സ്ഥാപനം (സിഎംഎഫ്ആർഐ) വികസിപ്പിച്ച ‘ഷാർക് അവെയർ’ മൊബൈൽ ആപ്പും ഇന്ററാക്ടീവ് ഇ-ലേണിംഗ് മൊഡ്യൂളും സംസ്ഥാന ഫിഷറീസ് മന്ത്രി വി ഇ അബ്ദുൽ ഗഫൂർ പ്രകാശനം ചെയ്തു.
വന്യജീവി സംരക്ഷണ നിയമപ്രകാരം സംരക്ഷിത പട്ടികയിലുള്ള സ്രാവിനങ്ങളെ തിരിച്ചറിയാനും അവയുടെ ശാസ്ത്രീയ നിയമവശങ്ങളെ കുറിച്ച് മനസ്സിലാക്കാനും സഹായിക്കുന്നതാണ് ‘ഷാർക്ക് അവെയർ’ ആപ്പ്.
പിടിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന സ്രാവുകൾ വന്യജീവി സംരക്ഷണ നിയമപ്രകാരം സംരക്ഷിക്കപ്പെട്ടവയാണോ എന്ന് ആപ്പിലൂടെ എളുപ്പത്തിൽ തിരിച്ചറിയാം.
2022ൽ ഭേദഗതി ചെയ്ത വന്യജീവി സംരക്ഷണ നിയമത്തിലെ വിവിധ പട്ടികകളിൽ ഉൾപ്പെട്ട സ്രാവുകളുടെ വിവരങ്ങളും ഇവയുടെ രാജ്യാന്തര വ്യാപാര നിയന്ത്രണങ്ങളും ആപ്പിലുണ്ടാകും
മത്സ്യത്തൊഴിലാളികൾക്കും ഫിഷറീസ് ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥർക്കും പൊതുജനങ്ങൾക്കും ഒരുപോലെ പ്രയോജനപ്പെടുന്നതാണ് ഈ ആപ്പ്. ഉടനെ തന്നെ ആപ്പ് ഗൂഗിൾ പ്ലേ സ്റ്റോറിൽ ലഭ്യമാകും.
സ്രാവുകളെയും കടൽ പരിസ്ഥിതിയെയും കുറിച്ച് കൂടുതൽ പഠിക്കാൻ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നവർക്കായി ഒരുക്കിയ ഡിജിറ്റൽ പ്ലാറ്റ്ഫോമാണ് ഇ-ലേണിങ് മൊഡ്യൂൾ. ലളിതമായ ഭാഷയിലുള്ള പാഠങ്ങൾക്കൊപ്പം സ്വയം അറിവ് പരിശോധിക്കാൻ പ്രശ്നോത്തരി, തത്സമയ വിലയിരുത്തൽ എന്നിവ ഉൾപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളെയും പൊതുജനങ്ങളെയും ലക്ഷ്യമിട്ട്, ലളിതവും ആകർഷകവുമായ രീതിയിലാണ് ഇത് തയ്യാറാക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നത്.
വന്യജീവി സംരക്ഷണ നിയമം, വംശനാശഭീഷണി നേരിടുന്ന ജീവികളുടെ അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര കരാർ (സൈറ്റസ്), ജീവികളെ തിരിച്ചറിയാനുള്ള മാർഗം തുടങ്ങിയ വിവരങ്ങൾ ലഭ്യമാണ്.
നാഷണൽ ഫിഷറീസ് ഡെവലപ്മെന്റ് ബോർഡിന്റെ (എൻ എഫ് ഡി ബി) സാമ്പത്തിക സഹായത്തോടെ സിഎംഎഫ്ആർഐയിൽ ഫിൻഫിഷ് ഫിഷറീസ് ഡിവിഷനിലെ സീനിയർ സയന്റിസ്റ്റ് ഡോ ലിവി വിൽസന്റെ നേതൃത്തിലാണ് ആപ്പും ഇ-ലേണിംഗ് മൊഡ്യൂളും വികസിപ്പിച്ചത്.

CMFRI comes up with digital tools for awareness on protected sharks
In a major step to enhance awareness about protected and endangered sharks and rays, the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (ICAR-CMFRI) has developed a mobile application ‘Shark Aware’ and an interactive e-learning module on these species. State Minister for Fisheries V E Abdul Gafoor released the digital tools at a function held at CMFRI on Monday.
Shark Aware mobile app
The Shark Aware mobile app is designed to help users identify legally protected sharks and rays and provide easy access to scientific, legal, and conservation-related information. The app includes details of protected elasmobranch species listed under Schedules I, II, and IV of the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972, as amended in 2022. It provides species identification features, legal protection status, international trade regulation information, and conservation significance in a user-friendly format.
“The app will benefit fishermen, fisheries officials, wildlife enforcement officers, researchers, students, and the general public, offering information on accurate identification of protected sharks and rays, strengthen the effective implementation of the Act, and support conservation efforts”, said Dr Livi Wilson. The app will be available in the Google Play Store shortly.
Interactive e-learning module
The interactive e-learning module is a self-learning digital platform developed to improve knowledge on protected sharks and rays. The module includes multiple-choice quiz, instant assessment, and learning progress evaluation. It covers topics such as the Wild Life (Protection) Act, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), species identification, and the conservation importance of protected elasmobranchs in an interactive and easy-to-understand format.
The module serves as an effective training and capacity-building tool for students, researchers, fisheries and wildlife officials, and the general public. This will enable users to acquire scientific knowledge on protected sharks and rays anytime and anywhere through self-paced learning, thereby strengthening awareness and conservation of these species.
Kerala Fisheries Department Special Secretary Abdul Nasar B, CMFRI Director Dr Grinson George, Fisheries Director Chelsasini V, and CMFRI Finfish Fisheries Division Head Dr Shoba Joe Kizhakudan among others were present on the occasion.
