The major decrease in area coverage has been reported in Karnataka (4.28 lakh ha), Telangana (3.61 lakh ha), Uttar Pradesh (1.84 lakh ha), Andhra Pradesh (1.91 lakh ha), Madhya Pradesh (1.75 lakh ha), Tamil Nadu (1.32 lakh ha), Jharkhand (1.38 lakh ha), Maharashtra (1.15 lakh ha), etc. Higher area coverage has been reported in Assam (0.52 lakh ha), Odisha (0.29 lakh ha), etc.. Overall, the decline in rice area coverage is mainly attributable to substantial reductions in Karnataka, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.
Pulses: About 117.13 lakh ha area coverage under pulses has been reported as compared to 115.30 lakh ha during the corresponding period of last year, showing an increase of 1.84 lakh ha. The major increase in area coverage has been reported in Uttar Pradesh (3.97 lakh ha), Jharkhand (0.98 lakh ha), Telangana (0.90 lakh ha), Rajasthan (0.57 lakh ha), Madhya Pradesh (0.38 lakh ha) etc. On the other hand, the major decrease in area coverage has been reported in Maharashtra (2.60 lakh ha), Karnataka (2.07 lakh ha), Odisha (0.61 lakh ha) etc. Overall, the increase in pulses area coverage is mainly attributable to substantial gains in Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Telangana, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, which more than offset the declines reported in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Odisha.
Shri Anna & Coarse Cereals: About 181.39 lakh ha area coverage under Shri Anna & Coarse Cereals has been reported as compared to 182.48 lakh ha during the corresponding period of last year, showing a decrease of 1.09 lakh ha. The major decrease in area coverage has been reported in Karnataka (5.64 lakh ha), Maharashtra (2.41 lakh ha), Andhra Pradesh (0.62 lakh ha), Tamil Nadu (0.24 lakh ha) etc. The higher area coverage has been reported in Rajasthan (2.90 lakh ha), Chhattisgarh (1.69 lakh ha), Odisha (0.85 lakh ha), Madhya Pradesh (0.80 lakh ha), Bihar (0.72 lakh ha), Uttar Pradesh (0.63 lakh ha), Jharkhand (0.41 lakh ha), Uttarakhand (0.38 lakh ha), etc. Overall, the decline in area coverage is mainly attributable to substantial reductions in Karnataka and Maharashtra, along with declines in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, which have more than offset the gains recorded in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand.
Oilseeds: About 191.99 lakh ha area coverage under oilseeds has been reported as compared to 193.06 lakh ha during the corresponding period of last year, showing a decrease of 1.07 lakh ha. The major decrease in area coverage has been reported in Rajasthan (2.23 lakh ha), Gujarat (1.93 lakh ha), Karnataka (0.37 lakh ha), etc. The higher area coverage has been reported in Uttar Pradesh (2.91 lakh ha), Madhya Pradesh (1.14 lakh ha), etc. Overall, the decline in oilseed area coverage is mainly attributable to substantial reductions in Rajasthan and Gujarat, which have more than offset the gains recorded in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
Sugarcane: About 58.47 lakh ha area coverage under sugarcane has been reported as compared to 58.87 lakh ha during the corresponding period of last year, showing a decrease of 0.40 lakh ha. The major decrease in area coverage has been reported in Bihar (0.30 lakh ha), Uttarakhand (0.20 lakh ha), etc. The higher area coverage has been reported in Uttar Pradesh (0.36 lakh ha), Haryana (0.21 lakh ha), etc. Overall, the decline in sugarcane area coverage is mainly attributable to substantial reductions in Bihar and Uttarakhand followed, which have more than offset the gains recorded in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
Jute & Mesta: About 6.34 lakh ha area coverage under Jute & Mesta has been reported as compared to 6.24 lakh ha during the corresponding period of last year, showing an increase of 0.10 lakh ha. The major increase in area coverage has been reported in Bihar (0.11 lakh ha), West Bengal (0.06 lakh ha), etc. On the other hand, the decrease in area coverage has been reported in Assam (0.07 lakh ha), Pradesh (0.01 lakh ha) etc., Overall, the increase in Jute & Mesta area is mainly attributable to higher coverage in Bihar and West Bengal, which have more than offset the decline reported in Assam and Andhra Pradesh.
Cotton: About 109.17 lakh ha area coverage under cotton has been reported as compared to 109.87 lakh ha during the corresponding period of last year, showing a decrease of 0.69 lakh ha. The major decrease in area coverage has been reported in Rajasthan (1.05 lakh ha), Haryana (0.90 lakh ha), Punjab (0.43 lakh ha), etc. On the other hand, higher area coverage has been reported mainly in Telangana (1.14 lakh ha), Gujarat (0.66 lakh ha), etc.. Overall, the decline in cotton area coverage is mainly attributable to substantial reductions in Rajasthan and Haryana, followed by declines in Punjab, which have more than offset the gains recorded in Telangana and Gujarat.
